1970 Graduates with a degree in Economics from Rikkyo University, Tokyo.
1972 Receives a BFA from the Art Centre College of Design, Los Angeles.
1974 Settles in New York and begins dealing in Japanese antiquities.
1977 First solo exhibition in Japan at the Minami Gallery, Tokyo
1980 Awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship
1981 First solo exhibition in the United States at the Sonnabend Gallery, New York
1982 Awarded the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship
1988 Awarded Mainichi Art Award
2001 Awarded the Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography
