1963 - Gained a degree in Engineering from Fukui University
1966 - Graduated from Tokyo College of Photography
1971 - First solo exhibition "Autistic Space" at the Ginza Nikon Salon, Tokyo
1971 - Won the Taiyo Prize for new photographers
1974 - Included in the exhibition "New Japanese Photography" at the Museum of Modern Art, New York
1976 - Participated in "Neue Fotografie aus Japan" at the Municipal Museum, Graz
1977 - First solo exhibition "Counting Grains of Sand" at Minolta Photo Space, Tokyo
1985 - His photographs of Hiroshima travelled throughout Japan and abroad in an exhibition sponsered by UNESCO
1984 - Won the annual award of the Photographic Society of Japan
1992 - 1996 Served as head of the Tokyo College of Photography
