Born on 16th June 1964, Patrick Taberna began photographing during numerous travels in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the United States - Nicolas Bouvier's L'usage du monde being his constant companion. Shortly after his arrival in Paris in 1987, he regularly attended the meetings of the Club des 30/40 led by Jean-Luc Lemaitre and later by Francis Richard.
In 1997 he undertook a postal exhibition, "Passage en Ouest". In return for stimulating his taste for travel and photography, ten people each received thirty-seven photographs on a weekly basis. This adventure notably led to a correspondence between himself, Bernard Plossu and Robert Frank.
Patrick Taberna was awarded the FNAC mention in 2000 for “Nord magnétique” and won the FNAC Paris award in 2001 for “Nos Italies”. He became laureate of the HSBC Fondation for Photography in 2004.
