Michael Hoppen Gallery is delighted to share a preview of our Paris Photo presentation. The fair opens at the Grand Palais Éphémère in the grounds of the Champ-de-Mars on Wednesday 8th November [preview day] and runs from Thursday 9th - Sunday 12th November 2023. You will find us at stand D16.

For this year’s edition of Paris Photo, we have curated an exhibition of exquisite, unique works. The term ‘unique’ has become ubiquitous, but we use it here in its true sense, meaning ‘one of kind’. The advent of digital photography has seen a shift away from traditional photographic processes and print-making. We are thrilled to present a group of unique objects, including hand-coloured silver gelatin prints, photograms, and photo-collages by some of the most significant masters of the twentieth century.

A entire wall of the booth will be dedicated to a group of 32 unique photographs by the late Japanese photographer, Masahisa Fukase. Titled From Window, the series is the result of the obsessional fascination Fukase had with photographing his wife, Wanibe, during the summer of 1973. Alongside this magnificent installation of photographs, we will be launching a limited-edition book, Masahisa Fukase, From Window, published by Guiding Light. Very soon you will be able to purchase one of the 120 copies available, through our website bookshop.

New gallery artist, Nikolai von Bismark's richly toned pigment prints will be juxtaposed with silver gelatin prints by the late Mexican documentary photographer, Enrique Metindes. His works of stark observational realism are focussed on the criminal happenings in and around Mexico city, over nearly half a century, into the late 90s. Works from Prix Pictet 2022 nominee, Siân Davey, will be exhibited in the company of work by our female photographers including Ishiuchi Miyako, Sarah Moon, Ann Mandelbaum and Deborah Turbeville.
