Review of the show: 'Collages by John Deakin' opened at the Museum Street Galleries, Bloomsbury, London, in the summer of 1962. The catalogue notes ran thus: 'Deakin employs everyday cut-outs which metamorphose into personal and magical images sometimes horrific, sometimes witty', concludin
'whether one likes or dislikes this work it is not possible to remain indifferent. The artist labellec several of his creations 'Portrait of Lionel Bart',
'Portrait of Lord Beaverbrook' and "The Beetles' [sic], no doubt in the hope that the celebrities depicted would be powerless to resist their likeness, no matter how imaginative. Invariably they remained indifferent, though 'Mr Daniel Farson' acquired his for 6o guineas. He recalled the show's only review: 'I hope that the artist's optimism in charging such prices is not matched by the public's enthusiasm.' Lord Beaverbrook remained unsold at 250 guineas.......
