Summer Newsletter 2022

Jul 13, 2022
It has been a very busy few months of fair activity for us with our first AIPAD in New York for two years and more recently, Masterpiece in London. At both fairs, it was wonderful to re-engage person to person again. The photography community is a strong and international group of dedicated dealers, curators, writers and of course, wonderful, and talented practitioners from all over the world. We are collectively focused on preserving the history and legacy of our medium and together we are helping to steer photography through these strange and challenging times.

AIPAD gave us the opportunity to once again meet with American museum curators, many of whom had not been able to travel to Europe in the past two years. They delighted in the work of Sîan Davey, and also in poignant new photographs by Lucas Foglia. The rare and exceptional works by Japanese post-war masters Masahisa Fukase and Eikoh Hosoe that we took to the fair were placed in the collections of important American institutions.

Siân Davey’s work is now part of the V&A's permanent collection thanks to the incredible generosity of the acquisition committee, and we are delighted that Siân is continuing her Garden project this summer. We anticipate new, wondrous images from her and look forward to sharing them with you. Eamonn Doyle has a new body of work and book to accompany it. As you know, Eamonn is a consummate photographer and publisher, and this book is beautifully designed and conceived and I am sure you will agree – his continued success is well deserved. There are only 300 copies so don’t delay and order your copy!

Our wonderful artist, Ishiuchi Miyako will open a large exhibition at the Stills Gallery as part of the Edinburgh Festival in August and we would urge you to visit her show if possible. Details are enclosed below.

Whilst photographs travel on the web very comfortably and can so easily be viewed on your screens, there is still nothing like the haptic experience of the actual photograph, in all its glory and scale. We look forward to continuing to curate these physical presentations for you, with Frieze Masters in October and then Paris again in November, our 26th Paris Photo!

We are always available at our Pall Mall Deposit location by appointment and do hope that you will find the time to visit us. Our planned re-opening of an exhibition space is still in the offing, and we will be in touch with you once all is confirmed.
