It was March 1963 when I discovered painting, and the first painter I photographed was not just anybody, it was Picasso!'

 - Andre Villers

'Three defined areas of Villers' friendship with Picasso are highlighted here in this book: the seminal portraits of Picasso; the decoupages, which Picasso cut himself and Andre photographed within his images; and finally, the collages that Andre was to produce after Picasso's death. These show a highly amusing irrelevance that is the signature of Villers' oeuvre - Whether it be with Van Gogh's Sunflowers or with the juxtaposition of Picasso's work against images that Villers made of empty beaches along the Cote d'Azur. His dexterous application of collage, each unique, are all the work of a consummate artist which is not afraid to borrow and adapt the influence around him.'

'The works illustrated in this book are a tribute to not only an intimate and long lasting friendship between Villers and Picasso, but also most of all to a great artist. It has been our pleasure to work with Andre and Chantal Villers preparing this exhibition and book during the last year. The ability he has to make one smile, I am sure you will agree, is infectious in the nicest possible way!'
