Born in Vienna in 1895, George Bunzl served in both World Wars, taking up photography in the last 30 years of his life. He participated in many exhibitions at home and abroad, and gave a number of one-man shows. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society in 1952 and a Fellow in 1956.
Bunzl had a passionate love for nature and for the mountains of Austria and Switzerland, where he spent much free time walking, climbing and skiing. His early work consisted of Alpine landscapes and snow scenes, while his later works were taken in various countries of Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and North, Central, and South America. Many of his photographs made in Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, and Peru are included in his book The Face of the Sun Kingdoms (1966).
